Our garbage contractors will take one large item per week, if placed at the curb before 7:00 am on your trash day.
For removal of
special items that our garbage contractors will not take, the Department of Public Works (DPW) offers several options for removal:
Please call the DPW at 248-651-5165 to get a cost estimate for removal of large or bulky items that you will place at your curb. Call City Hall at 248-733-3700 to coordinate payment and scheduling; payment is required at the time of reservation and is non-refundable. (Note: The current trash company will take one large item per week, free of charge).
Residents may bring large items and certain types of construction debris to the DPW yard. This includes unwanted furniture, tile and wood. The wood must have all nails either removed or hammered down. The fee for an Ecology-Drop Off is $25 minimum (Note: The DPW yard will not accept dirt, sod, grass, bricks, concrete and hazardous waste such as chemicals, paints, cleaners, gasoline and lubricants).
You can request a City flat-bed truck be parked at your residence overnight for you to load. The current cost is $100 for a three-yard flat-bed truck (approximately 1.5 to 2 times a pickup load). Payment is required at the time of reservation and is non-refundable. This service cannot be used for contracted work, or for the disposal of any paints, hazardous waste, or tires. This program operates on a first-come, first-served basis and the truck must be reserved in person at City Hall.
Items containing Freon (air conditioning units, refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, etc.) will require an additional charge for disposal. The current fee for freon items is $100 when placed curbside for an Ecology Pick-Up, or $50 when they are dropped off at the DPW yard or placed in a City truck during a Dial-A-Dump. The freon removal fee is in addition to any other fees.
