Permits
Permits to purchase a pistol can be obtained at our Dispatch Center. Permits are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Although permits may sometimes be issued on the same day, the process for reviewing and approving applications may take several days. There is no cost for a permit.
Requirements
In order to register a pistol, you must:
- Have a valid Michigan driver's license or personal ID
- Not be subject to a Personal Protection Order or Conditional Bond Release
- Not have any current arrest warrants
Convictions for certain criminal laws may also disqualify you. CCW applicants who receive a CCW permit issued on or after July 1, 2001, may now use it to purchase a pistol and will no longer be required to obtain a separate purchase permit, as long as their CCW remains valid.
